Year 2 Semester 2
Exploratory Project
This project is an entry to the iLight Singapore 2018 competition. iLight Singapore is a sustainable light art festival held annually in Marina Bay, Singapore. The festival is organised and presented by the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
‘Tesseract’ is an interactive installation visualising the concept of repercussions through time. The largely homogenous space illustrates the concept of our interdependent world.
The atmospheric pavilion showcases the beauty of Southeast-Asian motifs in the day, and the energy of Singapore’s city at night. The placement of hinged partitions serves to create variability of user footprints through the pavilion – one that is directly changes the user experience through reflective panels, unique screens and illuminative fixtures. This experience is amplified towards the centre of the pavilion.
Restrictions to the hinges are placed to ensure the enclosure of the pavillion’s core space, while retaining a visual connection to the external surroundings. Screens that extend from the partitions can overlap, providing a dynamic experience from casted shadows through different times of the day. The variations in the height of partitions allow continuity of a dynamic experience when night falls. The viewer enjoys a visual blend of external and internal spaces - the direct consequence of his surroundings.
